Mfuni FPL: Is He Worth Buying After The Move?

This is the GW4 edition, kept for the record. The always-current version lives at fantasyfootballiq.app/fpl-transfers/.

Mfuni to Coventry: A £4.0m Name You Can Ignore

Seven. That's how many Coventry defenders sit ahead of Mfuni in my pecking order, and it's the only number you really need from this piece.

The new arrival lands at Coventry as a £4.0m defender with an ownership of essentially zero — nobody has him, and on my numbers nobody should. Let me be straight about what I'm working with here: I have no prior record for him. No minutes, no starts, nothing that tells me what he's actually done at this level. When I don't hold that evidence, you deserve to hear it plainly rather than read a paragraph of hedged waffle that sounds like knowledge. I can't tell you he's good or bad — I can only tell you where he fits, and right now he doesn't.

My six-week projection for him rounds to nothing. Not "a modest return" — nothing. That's what seven players ahead of you in the queue does to a defender's numbers. He's not on set pieces either: Wright has penalties, Rudoni takes direct free kicks, Grimes has corners. There's no back-door route to points here.

The frustrating part is that Coventry's fixtures are genuinely appealing — Brighton at home, Forest away, Newcastle at home, Spurs away, then Fulham and Sunderland both at the Coventry Building Society Arena. That's a run worth attacking. But attack it with defenders who actually play. At the same £4.0m price, van Ewijk and Bobby Thomas are my top two Coventry defensive picks, both projected for a steady stream of points over that stretch — the kind of 3-4 a week that makes a bench defender genuinely useful, with clean-sheet upside in the home games. Jay Dasilva and Amenda sit just behind them, also at £4.0m.

Could Mfuni force his way in? New signings sometimes do, and if he starts stringing together minutes I'll revise fast — a £4.0m starter in a side with these fixtures would be one of the best enabler picks in the game. But that's a hypothetical, and FPL squads aren't built on hypotheticals.

My call: leave him alone. If you want a cheap Coventry defender for this run — and you should consider one — van Ewijk is my pick at the same price. Mfuni goes on the watchlist, nothing more.
